Flexible Funding Options for Family Law Fees
Separating is hard enough without worrying about how you’ll pay your lawyer or keep up with the bills at home. For many families in Newcastle and the Hunter, the cost of a family law matter is one of the biggest sources of stress after a separation.
To help, Conditsis Lawyers Newcastle works with Juel, an Australian funder that specialises in family law matters. Juel’s funding can cover your legal costs and help with day-to-day expenses while your matter is resolved.

What can Juel funding be used for?
Your legal costs. Juel pays our invoices directly while your matter is running, so you don’t have to find the money for each bill yourself.
Your household. Funding can also help keep things steady at home, including:
- rent or mortgage repayments
- school fees
- groceries and utilities
- medical costs
- other approved living expenses
Juel funds property settlement matters, including those that also involve parenting arrangements.
Why does funding make a difference?
When money is tight, it’s tempting to accept the first offer just to make the pressure stop. Funding gives you time to make considered decisions, and it gives us room to run your matter properly, so the outcome reflects what you’re entitled to.
Other features of a Juel loan:
- The interest rate is fixed for the life of the loan.
- There are no contingency fees and no success fees.
- Interest can build up and be repaid when your matter finishes.
- Funding can be changed as your circumstances change.
Who is eligible?
Juel’s team assesses each application on its own facts. They look at the strength of the matter, the likely outcome and your circumstances as a whole, not just your income or job. Most successful applications involve an asset pool or an expected property settlement.
Loans start at $20,000 and go up to $1 million, or 50% of your share of the net matrimonial pool if that’s less. Your case is the main security for the loan, although other security can be needed in some situations. Juel also does a credit check, which may show as an enquiry on your credit file.
What’s involved in applying?
- Start with an enquiry. You can fill in Juel’s short online form yourself, or ask us to send it for you with your permission.
- Juel gets to know your matter. They will talk with you and with our Newcastle team about where things are up to.
- Funding is arranged. If Juel approves your loan, they’ll structure it to suit you, and you draw on it as needed.
Once Juel has what it needs, decisions often come through quickly. Fees and interest apply to approved loans and can generally be paid from the loan itself. Juel will set out the current costs in full before you agree to anything.
Should you consider funding?
It depends on your situation, and funding won’t suit everyone. At your first appointment at our Newcastle office, we’ll go through your options with you, whether that’s Juel funding or another payment arrangement.
Funding is provided by Juel Litigation Finance Pty Ltd (ACN 077 657 731, Australian Credit Licence 408709) and is subject to eligibility criteria and approval. Fees, terms and conditions apply. This is general information only and does not consider your personal circumstances.
